The Welcoming Nest
Nests. What’s this all about? That’s what I asked myself when I began seeing nests in my mind’s eye during my daily meditations.
During the past two years, I have found myself on a journey – not a journey of physical wanderings, but of emotional, mental and spirituals wanderings. My coaching course of 2014 encouraged the idea of “living it to give it.” This meant and continues to mean that in order to help others in their healing journeys, I must be willing to go on my own with daily practices of exploring my emotional responses to others and questioning my mind stories and limiting beliefs. It was for me like cracking open a coconut each time I tapped my concealing shell to reveal the sweet milk inside. Wow! – that’s what I was believing? And oh my gosh! – that’s the message my anger, worry, sadness was trying to tell me?These gifts of discovering the hidden messages behind my emotions and the dispelling of old, childhood beliefs cleared the path for me to tap into my own soul wisdom.
In the fall of 2014, I began taking an intuition course that required practicing a daily meditation technique. Not having had much success with past attempts at meditating – my mind always wandered to my worry list and shopping list to the point that I was more stressed after the mediations than before, I was not too enthused to start practicing. But with an attitude of play, I journeyed into my head.
Lo and behold, through these meditations, I was able to become aware of and strengthen my intuitive abilities. This allowed me to see things in my mind’s eye that were healing and often joyful.
I often saw trees, wildlife and then began to see bird’s nests with eggs in them. This intrigued me and I began to contemplate what a nest is. The act of nesting is the act of nurturing. When we are in the process of giving birth to something new, be it a piece of art, a relationship, a child, a home, a business or even a new way to see ourselves -we need to honor and nurture these creations. Kindness, softness, encouragement, patience, courage, hope and trust are called for. We are in the process of welcoming something precious from our soul; something vulnerable from deep within our core.
A nest is a soft, contained vessel to nestle and nurture these new creations until they are ready to emerge into the world – a place of safety for the future to settle in and await. It is a sacred space, a home where the future sleeps and grows strong so that it can awaken and be birthed into the external world.
So, from my soul to yours, I present The Welcoming Nest. Each is hand-woven from natural raffia, dried moss, grapevines and wool. They are delicate, yet have a firm skeletal structure, scented with lavender sprigs and herbs of thyme, sage and rosemary. No two nests are the same, just as no two creations are the same. Each are unique and weaved with love, joy and blessing.
Delight in your nest as you delight in your own gifts that you are bringing forth into the world. Be kind and gentle, courageous and patient with yourself as you share with the world your unique offerings.
With deep gratitude,
Meryl
