A Space to Call Your Own
Dear Awesome Woman,
Oh, how important it is to have a sacred space – a space to call your own.
Even if it’s as simple as the top of your bedroom dresser or a shelf in your closet, magical things begin to happen when you carve out that honorable space for yourself.
As busy women, we are often caring for others – it is our nature. And that is truly wonderful.
At the same time, we must care for ourselves.
We must show that we honor ourselves – our interests, our unique personality and our time.
Doing this opens us up to receiving other beauty that G-d is bringing us (see “The Art of Receiving”). It could be new friendships, new business opportunities or even an improvement in your health. These are divine gifts being brought to our path.
Years ago, I began with a shelf in my closet – collecting shells, a pink quartz rock and a trinket with a feel-good saying on it. Slowly I began to build my self-care muscle, taking time to do simple art like collaging, spending more time in nature and attending classes that excited me. My joy increased and I felt healthier and more alive.
This simple act of choosing that small space opened up a space inside of me. It reflected a value of honoring myself.
Today, I invite you to choose a space to call your own – a window ledge, a corner of a room, or the top of your dresser. Place in that special spot meaningful objects that light you up – ones that bring you a spirit of joy. These are tokens of beauty that represent your individual self – your interests, your values, your desires and your dreams. Perhaps it’s a feather you’ve found, a funny card that a friend gave you or a special shell that you love. This place is yours.
Start small and then grow bolder. Expand that space when you feel called to or put something you love in other areas throughout your home.
Each space is sacred, as are you.
