Decluttering—Letting Go of What Doesn’t Work and Making Space For You
Mindbody Wellness Clarity Tip:
Decluttering—Letting Go of What Doesn’t Work and Making Space For You
Dear Awesome Woman,
This summer I discovered a resource that has inspired me to declutter every corner of my house, very slowly, but insistently. It’s a book by Tracy McCubbin called ‘Making Space, Clutter Free’ and she uses a beautiful mindbody approach to decluttering. She helps the reader, or in my case, the listener since I started with the audible, uncover the emotional blocks to their stuff. As a somatic/mindbody healer who loves to delve into the emotions this approach really appealed to me.
What makes us buy stuff and hold onto stuff? What makes us hesitate to throw things out? Our thoughts and emotions! Our shame for having bought something expensive that we never wear, our regret over a lost a dream, our grief over the passing of a person, our desire for a fantasy life, our loneliness in the belief that our best years are behind us, our fear of the future, our avoidance of reality.
Once identified with honesty, we can declutter our spaces with more love for ourselves on this journey of being human. We can let go of the limitations and shaming effect of perfectionism, we can embrace ourselves for making ‘mistakes,’ and we can release old habits of comforting ourselves in ways that aren’t in our best interest.
We can make new space for ourselves not only in our homes, but in our hearts.
