Dear Awesome Woman,
How can you love yourself more today than yesterday?
Have you been super busy or stressed about some situations recently? Perhaps a way to love yourself more is by taking short breaks throughout your day to nourish your soul. I used to have the false belief that if I could just work longer and harder and get everything done then I could relax. But that done never happened. It was just always a marathon towards no end.
And my body didn’t like it. Drain and aches and pains showed me that.
So I started to do something different. I made sure to take lots of breaks throughout my day to nourish my soul. Whether it was a mini walk to check out budding flowers or a sit spot in my garden or a 15 minute collage or grabbing a piece of chocolate and sitting down to read something enjoyable, these small breaks peppered throughout a busy day brought (and still does) nourishment to my soul.
This was love.
So what can you do today to nourish your soul? If you like the idea of a sit spot, it just entails sitting somewhere outside, closing your eyes and noticing all your senses. What do you smell? What do you hear (and listen as far as your ears can you carry you in all directions)? Sense the surface of what you’re sitting on, the feel of it supporting your body. And then open your eyes and take in a gentle look. What do you see?
This whole process takes me only a few moments to do, though some sit spotters do it for twenty minutes or more. I’m satisfied to do it for much less (3-5 minutes) and it gives me mindful moments of pleasure.
Also, collaging is a great way to nourish your soul. It’s an act of simple creativity. Just take a paper, a glue stick, a scissor and a magazine or even advertisement flyer (I like Trader Joes and Costco Connection) and cut out whichever words or pics strike your fancy, light you up. Don’t add thinking to it—no ‘shoulds’ allowed. No second guessing with thoughts of “why am I choosing this?” Just let yourself leave your mind behind, and cut out whatever uplifts your spirit—you’ll probably feel that in your torso as a slight excitement. Or like a soul-pull forwards. The gluing doesn’t have to be fancy either. It can be simple or you can make it into a work of art. I have albums and scrap books filled with both.
However you choose to nourish your soul, feel that love expand your being. It will radiate to the world.
