Two Mindbody Wellness Resolutions for the New Year
Two Mindbody Wellness Resolutions for the New Year
Mindbody Wellness Clarity Tips
Dear Awesome Woman,
When a year comes to an end, it is a great time to attend to what needs to be cleared out and create space and direction for the new. I’d like to share with you two Mindbody Wellness tips to commit yourself to for the New Year.
- Allow the Flow of True Fear:
Oftentimes we ignore our gut intuition and rationalize things away. We want to see people as nice, or we choose to make excuses for them like—”they really didn’t mean that weird thing that they said.” But what happens if they did mean that thing that they said? And your soul doesn’t want you to ignore it but wants you to listen to it?
True fear is the focused awareness in your body that something isn’t right. Like an alarm going off, your senses are telling you that you need to pay attention to an outside threat—a person or situation.
In the words of author Karla McLaren, when you allow true fear to flow, “you’ll feel focused, centered, capable and agile.” If you’ve read other newsletters of mine, you’re aware that emotions are “energy in motion” and present themselves as physical sensations. They have messages for you. The questions that fear asks of you are: what is threatening your wellbeing?; what action can you take to feel safe?
If you don’t listen to the emotion of true fear, that energy can get stuck in your body and make you feel anxious, tired, apathetic, despairing, confused, dissociated, or nervous. You may not necessarily need to take big action immediately with the info that you receive from your body unless it’s a dangerous situation but listening to it and being honest with yourself about its wisdom is crucial for wellbeing. True fear does require action—paying attention to the information that you are receiving in your body is one way of taking action.
Your soul is guiding you all the time and it does want you to listen to the instinctual reactions of your body. Your body takes in so much more information than your mind and it’s a disservice to your safety when you ignore it. And if you’re a typical woman, society has taught you to ignore your body and gut instincts.
Gavin de Becker, author of “The Gift of Fear” and “Protecting the Gift—Keeping Children and Teenagers Safe (and Parents Sane)” shares wonderful information about how important it is to listen to your intuition.
For example, he shares: “A date won’t take ‘no’ for an answer. The new nanny gives a mother an uneasy feeling. A stranger in a deserted parking lot offers unsolicited help. The threat of violence surrounds us every day. But we can protect ourselves, by learning to trust—and act on—our gut instincts.”
Though his books contain some frightening information, he also encourages his readers to not be in denial. His intention is to empower us.
I remember a situation for myself where I ignored my body’s discomfort in order to maintain a friendship. This friend spoke negatively about others and my body would cringe when she did. And yet my mind rationalized, “She’s such a nice and friendly person—she must not mean what she says.” Turned out that she was a Borderline/Narcissist and really did mean everything that she said. I exited that friendship when I got clear and courageous enough to do so (“Escape from the Borderline/Narcissist’s Web” is a free gift download to guide you in dealing with these situations—it’s accessed here).
Looking back, I know that I chose not to listen to my body’s signals because my mind wanted to see something else. That cringing was true fear and was indicating to me that this person was not a safe person, quite a threat to my wellbeing. The action that I needed was to get distance.
Have you ever done anything like this? Ignored your body’s instinctual reaction of fear—stomach dropping, brows furrowing in confusion, a cringe, a gut punch to the torso, or an intake of breath? Well, for the coming New Year, please take on this Mindbody Wellness resolution to pay attention to those true fear messages your body is giving you when something feels off or weird.

- Tap into Joy
Notice what brings an uplift to your spirit—maybe your chest expands, maybe you sit up a bit taller, maybe you feel relaxed and peaceful.
—If you love flowers, bring some fresh ones into your home just for the uplift they bring—for that spark of joy in your system. Don’t wait for a special occasion or for someone else to give them to you—bring some home yourself.
—If you haven’t tried collaging or other simple ways of creatively expressing your soul, the New Year is a great time to do so. Check out: Love-Yourself-More Monday! Nourish Your Soul.
—Hang up some beautiful pics or uplifting affirmations in your closet. Use that space as a feel good part of your home.

Remember—you are a walking nervous system. Be nourishing and kind to yourself as you release the old and welcome in the new. Getting rid of toxicity in the way of distancing yourself from unkind people and expanding in the way of bringing more beauty, light, and creativity into your being and home will be the best health decision you can make.
You can choose to be your greatest cheerleader this coming New Year. Your body and soul will thank you!
